This weekend’s Grand Prix winners

What a weekend this has been, we had two major CSI5* shows in Chantilly by Longines Global Champions Tour and the other in Rome. The former won by Germany’s Ludger Beerbaum, which counts as his second LGCT Grand Prix win this season, but this time on Chiara who managed to produced triple clear round and the fastest time in the jump – off to pocket the 100,000 Euro cheque ahead of Daniel Deusser & First Class who was just fractions of a second slower. In third Colombia’s Daniel Bluman, who was also third in Hamburg, came up on the podium with Conconcreto Apardi in a time of 39.45 seconds. The overall rankings are still led by Christian Ahlmann on 186 points, followed by Ludger Beerbaum on 126 who is shadowed by Sweden’s Rolf – Goran Bengtsson on 125 points.

In CSIO5* Rome, however, McLain Ward was the one who stole the spotlight when he won the Loro Piana Grand Prix of Rome with HH Azur who was the fastest against the clock in the jump – off in 40.45 seconds, followed by Peder Fredricson with H&M All in 42.05 seconds and in third USA’s Laura Kraut with the impressive Zeremonie.

In the CSIO3* of Lisbon, the 1m60 Grand Prix was won by home – rider Joao Chuva & 11 – year old Antonio as one of only two double clears. The runner up spot went to Dominique Joassin from Belgium with Best of Opus Dei Z and in third place carrying 4 faults was Eduardo Alvarez with Fidux.

Abdel Said picked up a Grand Prix victory this weekend for Egypt in the CSI2* 1m45 Grand Prix of Reims with AS Sport Horses’ Hope Van Scherpen only fractions of a second faster than Cedric Hurel with Tarquin. In third place, another colombian : Rene Lopez with Twig Du Veillon.

The CSI2* 1m45 Grand Prix of Wierden was won by Dutchman with Jelmer Hoekstra with Quinoa Des Riolletts as the fastest of 9 other combinations qualifying to the jump – off. In second place, Michael Greeve also from the Netherlands on Eurohill’s Africa just a second and half slower than that of the winner. In third place, Austria’s talented Julia Kayser on Sterrehof’s Ushi.
