Steve Guerdat has made an official statement on his website following the FEI news that two of his horses, Nino des Buissonnets and Nasa, have tested positive for prohibited substances:
The FEI informed the rider Steve Guerdat, a case of positive test performed during CSIO5* La Baule (FRA) from 14 to 17 May 2015 on two of his horses and therefore announced the suspension of the rider and his two horses according to the FEI rules. Based on previous cases with the same combination of substances, FEI announced in its press release that a case of food contamination can be the cause of the positive test, knowing that three previous suspensions were lifted in December by the FEI.
According to the regulations of the FEI, Steve Guerdat will have the opportunity to present himself and his owners in the court of the EIF to seek a stay of his layoff and a B sample analysis about the two horses during the week.
Steve Guerdat and his team were surprised by this announcement and deeply saddened by this news. For the rider and his owners, the top priority has always been the welfare of their horses. Olympic champion in London is recognised throughout the equestrian world for his excellent management and great respect he owes his horses ever since.
Steve Guerdat is supported by his team, his owners and sponsors that he personally contacted and that give him full support. Olympic champion now devotes all its efforts in search of the cause of the food contamination. Steve Guerdat is confident to deliver convincing explanations, in view of previous cases recalled by the FEI
