Billy Twomey makes history by winning the Hamburg Derby

For 19 years, German riders have dominated the Hamburg Derby but that didn’t happen today. Ireland’s Billy Twomey & 13 – year old Diaghilev have made history when they took on the podium’s highest step in a wide field of 31 riders with no less than 10 riders being eliminated in the Derby track. Clearly it is not for the faint hearted ! Nine combinations made it to the jump – off but Twomey finished off in a cracking 49.96 seconds followed by Great Britain’s Nigel Coupe & Golvers Hill who was 2 seconds behind and German Andre Thieme & Voigtsdorfs Quonschbob in third.
